Aimie Cronin interviews Jenny Scown on her Gallery’s latest Exhibition :
Inspirit Gallery’s latest mixed media exhibition, Spinning a Yarn tells the story of NZ wool and how its making its mark on the local and international fashion scene.
Last year as Jenny wandered through Waikato’s Field Day Event she saw the NZ Wool stand and thought “Wow, this could be taken to another level” So she spent the next year planning the exhibition and managed to pull together 23 of NZ’s artists & designers to feature in the exhibition which cleverly coincides with Field Days. It’s called “spinning a Yarn” because its about telling the stories about NZ wool and garments, “Every piece has a story”
She is proud to represent locall artists and designers and thinks their work belongs on the international stage. Waikato label Shikoba is part of the exhibition and designer Aroha Wikotu has a philosophy which is around being close to nature: ” She is the local Queen of wool”
